PREVALENCE OF HIV/AIDS AMONGST PREGNANT WOMEN ATTENDING ANTE NATAL CLINIC IN UNIVERSITY OF BENIN TEACHING HOSPITAL (UBTH)

A retrospective research work was carried out to investigate the prevalence ofHIV/AIDS amongst pregnant women attending antenatal clinic in University of BeninTeaching Hospital (UBTH) between January 2006 June 2009.In month June,100 patients were screened using determine kit (preliminary test) and Stat Pak Kit(confirmatory detect presence antibodies HIV-1 HIV-2 antigens,out which total number 4 (4%) confirmed positive. In 2009 themonthly incidence HIV order February > April >March May. 9000 within January2006 2009, 2510 (27.88%) in2006, 2550 (28.33%) 2007, 2577 (28.63%) 2008and 1363 (15.14%) 2009. The Aprilhad a significantly higher (P < 0.05) women.The highest occurred 2007 with totalnumber 255 (35.28%), second 240(33.28%). Women aged 21-30 had significant 53.09% ofHIV compared age 11-20, 31-40 41-50 2008 2009.The seroprevalence inUBTH is 8%.
